PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — A late-night drive through unincorporated Pierce County ended in tragedy Friday when a 21-year-old man was fatally shot in what investigators believe was a road-rage incident, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies and emergency medical crews were dispatched shortly after 10:16 p.m. to reports of a single-vehicle crash in the 16100 block of Military Road East, an area characterized by long stretches of roadway, limited lighting, and moderate nighttime traffic.
When first responders arrived, they found a car that had veered off the road and slammed into a tree. Inside the vehicle, they discovered the young driver suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Shooting Believed to Have Occurred Before Crash
Preliminary findings suggest the shooting took place prior to the crash, leading investigators to believe the victim may have been attempting to escape or seek help after being shot.
